This week’s blog write-up is about a special program for our Senior group of campers. Whilst the Seniors do many activities and sports that are similar to the other age sections at camp, one pursuit that makes getting a ‘Senior’ special may be the river rafting program.

The large choice of matters that camps educate youngsters is how you can live on their very own. Usually, kids nowadays are used to being adorned in this manner they never actually venture out by themselves. Though this may provide the sensation of protection, the truth is that much afterwards in life, this isn’t likely to be truth. In case your children don’t understand how to stay independently for short intervals such as by signing up for  camps for the summer, they’re very likely to understand that, at some point they will identify it tough to leave the house.

The Senior campers have this particular excursion rather than a half-day hike and a lot of campers would adore to have this activity every day! It seriously is some thing to look forward to and also provides the chance to devote a couple of hours outside of camp grounds.

The program itself takes location down in the Valais and you'll find two separate ‘sailings’ during the day; 1 group in the morning and one in the afternoon. The speed of the water is very gentle in comparison to other ‘white-water rafting’ experiences you could take, but the water temperature is something quite memorable! The Rhône river gathers its waters from quite a few Alpine glaciers and there is not a lot a lot more refreshing a feeling than jumping in on a hot summer’s day!

Naturally, safety on the raft is our quantity one priority and this really is why each boat that we take has an skilled rafting guide on it. Additionally, there is a rafting demonstration that's held by a guide and counselors within the swimming pool at camp. Whilst there's certainly a comedy element to this, all the vital safety components are covered for the duration of this time.

There are two highlights of the entire experience for campers. One is certainly attempting to push their counselor into the cold waters of the Rhône! The other is certainly, the barbecue lunch that they are served. A large buffet of barbecued meats, salad, vegetables, potato chips and soft drinks are all you can wish for following such a grand expertise. Becoming a Senior camper is surely some thing to appear forward to for our younger campers, if not for this expertise alone!
